Recycled in pipes is increasing, but are needed more rules to guarantee quality

According to a survey conducted by Teppfa (European association of manufacturers of plastic pipes and fittings) and reported by Polimerica, 218 thousand tons of recycled plastic were used in 2020 for the production of pipes and fittings, with anincrease over the year precedent, despite the pandemic. The increase in regenerated material affects all piping systems: PVC and polyolefins (polyethylene and polypropylene).

Teppfa therefore invited the European and national authorities to introduce measures to ensure a constant availability of recyclates with quality and cost-effectiveness requirements. Teppfa’s position is that in the absence of scientific evidence on the possibility of migration of these substances or restrictions, their use in recycled plastics should be authorized, being the best option.
